I have a January 1966 Ford parts and accessories manual that shows a length of 49.70 for the 289 4/B Special with a part # of C5ZZ-4602-E. The 289 2/B and 4/B C4 trans prem fuel shows a length of 51.06 part # C5ZZ-4602-H. The manual shows 200 cuin., 289 2/B and 289 4/B manual 3 and 4 spd trans as having a length of 50.78 with a part # of C5ZZ-4602-J. It didn't show a different length for the C4 drive shaft used with the HiPo engine in the Mustang. I hope this helps.

I would guess that the BL is for backup lights. Does your car have them.?
-
I've owned four early Mustangs with disc brakes and all had the body painted gray from the factory.
-
I wonder why a carb for a 4 speed HiPo car required a dash pot. NOS ?

This is in reference to the headlamps not having the Ford Logo. Some of the headlamps used by Ford during that time only had the manufactures name on the front ie General Electric, Westinghouse (W), and Tung-Sol(TS) at the bottom of the bulb. They all also had the words Sealed Beam at the bottom if I remember correctly. On the back side of the bulb it might say Made for Ford with a date. The bottom line is they didn't all have the ectched or script letting in the center of the head lamp.

1966 Dearborn Mustangs DIDN'T have a buck tag. I have a 1965 convertible and a 1966 fastback from Dearborn and neither ever had a buck tag.

Fred, You are the man when it comes to fuel pumps. I've just checked Bob Mannel's book and you are correct. Boy Ford Motor Co. can throw you a loop sometimes.
-
I think your pump decodes as follows 5 1965, C March, 9 Day and B second shift.

I finally got my M/M yesterday. Jim Smart and the folks at M/M did a great job with the article. Thanks Jim

The January 1965 Ford parts and accessories catalog shows Control Assy. Carburetor Choke B Special(with 4/B carb.)C50Z 9700-A 58.00" long-7/16-14 thread, F Special C5ZZ 9700-B 63.00" long and F Special C5ZZ 9700-C. The C5ZZ 9700-C has no lengh deminisions in the catalog. It appears that both B and C were in service in 1965. The January 1966 parts catalog shows F Special C5ZZ 9700-C 57.62" long 7/16-14 thread only. The A and B are not present in the 1966 book. I hope this helps.

I don't think the C code engine (289 2V) was available until 1965. The only C code engines I've seen were 6 bolt. Ford did use a 5 bolt D code engine in 1964.

I have a January 1965 Ford car parts and accessories book that shows black, white and blue convertible tops up to August 17,1964 and black white and tan convertible tops after August 17, 1964. The part # for the tan top is C5ZZ 7652700-bad.

I have a Dear/Metuchen radiator with the correct part #. There are some numbers at the end of the part # that I'm concerned about. It has M1 5FB. I think the 5FB is 1965 June second shift. If that's correct what is the M1?

I also attended the Raleigh,NC MCA National show. The host club did a great job and I'd go back again. I hope they do a Grand National. I also saw a lots of nice K cars and met great people. My hats off to the club.

Murf I've had that same problem. I went to salavage yards and removed the senders out of any 1965-1968 Mustangs and other Fords with 289, 302 and 390 engines. The senders usually have Autolite and 280 stamped on the bodies. You are correct the ones sold over the counter are not normally calibrated correctly.

My car is a Dearborn car and it had two bumpers. I removed the one attached to the body.

If you look on page 32 of the 4th edition of Tony's book it mentions the 1965/66 fan spaces as being 2.36 inches.
