FYI... as a point of reference, my '65 K fastback is unit number 393684 out of Dearborn and it had an 11A scheduled build date.

I don't know an exact date, maybe Fred might know? I've always been under the assumption that the power tips started sometime in '68 model year.

Agree about the VIN placing this as a January '65 car. The steering box tag has a Jan '65 date code(5A13C) as well as the intake manifold. The 4LA(first week of Nov. '64) date on the carb tag also fits a Jan build car.
As such, the car is too early to be a GT and also too early to have had pony interior. The plus side is that the car most likely had the Arvinode dual exhaust system which is now being reproduced. In one of your undercarriage shots, you can actually see the outline of the Arvinode rear muffler hanger where it was removed and the regular, more typical straight down dual exhaust hanger was bolted on. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bramick…57604422139176/
I hope this car was not bought under the assumption that it was a factory GT with original pony interior. With the repro door plate, no telling what color combo it had originally. One has to wonder if the scheduled date change was done intentionally to cover up that the car was built too early to be a GT.

That's keyword spamming and they can have their auction removed if ebay catches it or it's reported.

You need at least a 20' enclosed to trailer a mustang safely. This will allow you to move the car around to distribute the weight properly. It also allows you some storage room at the front of the trailer.

Chris:
Are you the fella that helps Ray Scherr with his cars?

No problem, craigslist is great for selling stuff quick!

Oh no!!!!!!

The way I look at it, I can open track a fastback a lot easier than a convertible!!

I just have my "driver" '65 K fastback. Will need to be restored eventually, but looks ok for now.
Restoring a '65 K convertible for a friend. It was actually my car (for a short time), before he talked me out of it and said he would finance a thoroughbred-level restoration! It was an offer I couldn't refuse. That car should be painted before the end of the year.

Originals and NOS I have seen were more of a flat black.

You might consider rebuilding the compressor yourself. I've done a few, not that hard. CAA sells the rebuild kit if you decide to go that route.

would it be safe to say that all factory parts had a fomoco oval in 66?
No, not really. Are the engineering numbers the same on both dip stick tubes?
-
Depends on what you're looking at. Generally, the FoMoCo oval script preceded the FoMoCo block and both of those preceded the common Ford oval.

The "DATE" field on your warranty plate is simply a "Scheduled" or "Projected" date that the car would be made. Could be off by days or weeks before or after that date.
You will always find a discrepancy in date codes throughout the car as different pieces came from different sources. It is not uncommon to find sheet metal with stampings a month or so before the car was actually assembled.

I'd say the latest auction text has a glaring inaccuracy where the seller states "All metal and panels on the car are factory and are excellent."
It's quite obvious that full floors have been installed. Battery apron has been replaced and the radiator support also possibly replaced. The most disturbing issue with the car (besides the VIN stamp) is the dash panel being out of a '65 car. Maybe this was done during a cowl repair? In one of the previous auctions, the correct 6T09K hidden VIN numbers appeared to be legit.
The question as to why a coupe VIN was originally re-stamped into the inner fender begs an explanation.
Unfortunately, there are more questions than answers with this car and the seller really needs to do a better job at describing what they have.

Anyone read the first paragraph?
"*** This is my third time listing this car. The previous negative feedback given in my previous listing was out of malice and total heresay that started from an honest picture posting mistake by a friend who was helping me sell it. The previous buyer never came to inspect the car in person. The negative feedback was from what I would consider false and slanderous information from an internet forum by people who have never seen or inspected the car in person nor know the complete story. I will be taking action to rectify my feedback. "

Question: Is it typical for the front fenders, hood, and trunk lid to rust and fade differently than the rest of the car, because they were painted off the car?
My guess is an amateur repaint to those areas at some point.
Wasn't this car in GA before?

Boy, I feel LUCKY!!!!!! I got a set off ebay 2 months ago for $57.00 to my door for 10-BF32 plugs WITHOUT the stars.
Were these the AUTOLITE logo like above or the regular "Powertip" BF32? The powertip are much more common.
