Hard to tell from the pics.
If you have a stock oil pump, can compare insides.
Are you running a stock oil pump?
The gray/black tags were used at all 3 plants as far as I know. It supposedly indicated the type of paint used on the car acrylic enamel vs. regular enamel.
Have quite a few examples of date plates, can check them for the 'G' marking.
Since the NOS one carries a C5OZ number, I wonder if the rubber grommet is unique to the Fairlane application. The service part may just be a "proper length" cable and not necessarily an exact replacement.
Quote from donolightningSo if it is mounted up on the dash you'd still have the D shaped hole also?
If you mean along the bottom of the dash, yes. The hole up on the dash may or may not have been D shape.
Quote from donolightningi'm sorry it is a 65. i have the D shaped hole on the underside of my dash. are you a mca judge?
Yes.
I'd expect the switch to be on the bottom edge on a March '65 GT. Not saying yours is wrong, just saying that it's not the norm for that time period.
March of '65 or '66?
The few March GT's I have seen (only 1 comes to mind) had the switch mounted on the bottom edge.
Quote from donolightningIs there a correct position for the fog light switch for a 65? Or did they put them wherever they wanted?
Early '65 GT's usually have the switch on the bottom edge of the dash. Later, including all '66 GT would have it mounted up on the left side of the dash.
Considering that the Arvinode is reproduced faithfully, according to the original drawings, I would not disregard it as simply a "repop" system. The Ford system you have on the car now, while nice to have, is not correct for your car. If I was you, I'd jump on the opportunity to install the right system and sell the service replacement system to offset the purchase cost of the Arvinode.
The way I see it, it's kinda like putting an NOS '66 grille on a '65. You can make it fit and it looks ok, but it's just not the right piece and looks out of place.
Sounds like your car had the arvinode system Gene, now get on the phone with Waldron's and order up! ![]()

BTW, if the car had the muffler replacement done by a dealer, the rear pipes with resonators would not have been changed. The original instructions for the Arvinode replacement kit instructed to cut the mufflers and just replace that area.
Stainless steel will obviously last longer, but the flare ends are harder to seat.
If you ever intend to have the car judged on authenticity, then stainless steel lines would normally be deducted for.
Interestingly, I have one of each of the floor hangers, both NOS.
So, which exhaust does Gene have on his car? Or, what type of hangers were on it originally?
Here's some VIN info. Need to check the Production Guide to see what else is in there.

But check out the fastbacks at Metuchen, they didn't seem to start building them until a couple weeks later than the first K coupe there:

Quote from canndyI posted in Research as well but needed some advice... There is a '65 mustang convertible for sale where i live and the vin number says it is a k code car... however, the car has power steering and is an automatic and i thought in 65 these were not options.. can you help shed any light? It now has a console and was wondering if it would be easy to tell if it has been changed from 4-speed. Also, is it possible to fake a VIN? Thanks so much! - chris
Just because it has power steering and an automatic should not rule out the possibility that it is a real K convertible. You'll need to check out the car and determine if those parts were added or if the car is really an "air" car... meaning a fake or clone.
I would guess that what they are selling is a replacement type part. Something that functions as original but probably off in appearance.
Scott at NPD asked me a while back to send him an original sample so they could reproduce it correctly. I need to do that!
Yes, would agree that he is only providing minimal information. I'd rather have an educated buyer and avoid having to do a refund.
Another "weird" looking VIN stamp...
Neat old car! I'd like to have that spare tire!
