You have to realize that parts would have been made in advance to ramp up to the new production changes. The casting date of 4G28 is July 28, 1964, making this a very early 6 bolt. 4H19 is the assembly date of the block, which is August 19, 1964.

You need a U.S. Royal dual redline, 6.95x14
Since the original wheels were 2 piece, they were assembled with rivets through the middle of the wheel. Same as plain steel wheels from that period.
-
It depends on what shows/classes you intend to enter the car. Reproduction wheels with the simulated rivets will be fine for pretty much anything except for MCA Thoroughbred class.
If you do find NOS '66 wheels, they'll probably run $250-500 each.

Just applies to 65-66 GT A codes. In '67, there were single exhaust A and C code GT's.

Guess what, the wires made a lot of difference in smoothness,
trottle response, idle and fuel consumption.
I've experienced the same when going to modern-type plug wires.

My 66 Kar has a black pulley and a blue fan. Dad bought it new and it has always been that way, never been replaced.
Is it a real early '66 car built in Dearborn?

On the NOS caps I finally ran a bead of silicone around the outer edge of the rear to keep them from flying apart. Nothing worse than watching your centers go pinging down the road when they leave your wheels!
Well, you know... with all that torque and everything

Well, hey... maybe if I don't finish it, I'll bring it anyway!

I just was reminded that Charles might appear with a fresh restored K code or two, any chance Charles?

Woof! Well, things have been a bit slower than anticipated with my painter. The car will probably be painted this week, but that only leaves 5 weeks to complete it.

Here's some pics of a data plate from a car I restored. You can see how the original could lead one to believe that it might have been black. What I have found since then is that the black background tags really don't fade, they just get scratched and possibly dull looking. But, they always retain the deep black appearance. On the other hand, the gray tags will discolor and fade over time.
Keep in mind that the pics I provided were taken with a camera flash.
-
I have to side with Kevin on this one. I have probably 50 or more examples of late '65 data plates and not one with a scheduled date past April '65 was black, they were all gray (from all 3 plants.)
On some of the gray plates, the color was darker, so a faded one could appear to have been black.
If you have images of your original plate, please post them.

Hi Mark,
well, that was an easy fix! Also means that you have a 65 GT, because the ammeter wiring is unlike that on the 66.
Other places to look for that build sheet are the doors, under the carpet and under the seats.
Maybe there are other common places that I don´t know about - the experts will probably chime in.
The loop ammeter on a '65 does not necessarily make a car a GT. Keep in mind that the 5 dial cluster was part of the interior decor group, which was a RPO for any '65 Mustang when the option became available in March/April '65.
Most NJ cars I have seen had a build sheet taped to the main harness. Have seen them in seats, under carpets, under trunk mat and stuffed in other places throughout the car.

My fastback didn't have the original carpet, but the vinyl strips were still on the rockers when I pulled up the replacement carpet.
I do have a 26A San Jose coupe that had the original carpet. It had serge edges and no toe pad.
-
Va Mustang sells the correct serge edge carpet for a fastback. That style carpet was used way into '65 production. My January '65 K fastback had the early style carpet. Have a late Jan '65 coupe out of San Jose that also had it.

I have found date stamps on calipers.
There is usually just a "K / H" cast into the calipers and some numbers. It is not a full FoMoCo engineering number though.
-
The smaller the better. If the back end slips away from you, the rear sway bars will make it more difficult to regain control.
-
I have an NOS one from an old blue/grey FoMoCo box. I'll get it color-matched sometime next week.
-
I'd say Guardsman is a little softer blue than AB.
-
Guardsman and Acapulco are similar. Caspian is a dark blue with a little grayish tint. Presidential is similar to Nightmist.
