Welcome to the site Bob. We are a Mustang site, but welcome all Ford lovers. And we have seen from your work that you have a passion for the small block Ford and whole heartily welcome you aboard!

tater_51, I had developed a friendship with Doug Nash and did visit him at his parents place in Garden City. He wanted to sell me his '65 red B/FXer, his '64 was blue. At that time, he was just completing his 289 powered "Bronco Buster" Funny Car. But unfortunately at that time, no one had any idea those things would be collectibles, so instead, I talked him into building an engine for me. Oh, the good ol' days.....

Tony Gregory started the 289 HiPo Registry. He was doing it mainly via the USPS. All he gathered was VIN, Warranty Tag (Door Tag) information, and state or country in which it resided. I took the registry over from Tony in 2002, he never mentioned that he had done anything else but use the USPS. He did have some "spots" in Mustang Monthly annouoncing his registry and possibly some other magazines. I'm pretty sure Tony did not or could not scan any State Records. He did attend car shows as well.

When Hank and I got together and came up with the website, we started gathering more information on the Kars. Such as factory options, condition of the car, and approximate mileage. Anytime a Kar changes hands which was already in the registry, I Email the person back and ask who/where/when he bought the Kar and from whom. Also, I inquire about the history of the Kar and previous owners. At some point in time, when I think we have enough kars with that type of information, that will be included in the registry much like the Shelby Registry. It is going to make the publication of the registry even more time consuming, but it will be worth it. I know that everyone will be asking when this is going to happen. It will probably be in about 4 years.

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the shop

Not a creature was stirring, all the work just had stopped

The tools were all hung on the peg board with care

In hopes that Santa soon would be there

The cars were all parked safely covered in the garage

My Roadster, My Pickup, and even my Hemi Dodge

My wife in her robe and I in my Batman P.J.'s

Had just settled down after shopping for days

When out on the driveway there arose such a clatter!

It sounded to me just like pressure plate chatter

On to the driveway I flew like the Flash

I tripped over the dog and landed in the trash

When there in the driveway beneath the Moon and the Stars

Sat a Model A with chrome ladder bars

As I walked up closer to get a better view

I noticed a Blown Flathead and cheater slicks too

There behind the wheel sat a driver so tuff

With Tattoos, an earring, and beard oh so ruff

Dressed in Black leather he looked like a Bruiser

I knew right away he must be the Flathead Cruiser"

"I pulled second, I pulled third, then I heard a big Bang,

Things started to smoke, things started to clang!"

"I spotted your big garage with hopes of repair"

His back seat was full of presents but I tried not to stare

"If you can fix my Ford and make it shift right

I will give you these gifts for ruining your night"

We opened the door and pushed the Ford in

Before I got underneath, he gave me a wink and a grin

The headers were hot, the slicks they were sticky

That blow-proof bell housing would make the job tricky.

I turned on my droplight and gave it a look

The big 3 inch exhaust was making me cook

When there to my surprise what did I see?

The four tranny bolts had wiggled themselves free

I grabbed my trusty torque wrench and started to turn

As I tightened the last one I could smell my sleeves burn

He slid behind the wheel and fired up that mill

As I directed him out listening to it idle, it gave me a chill

A Big Blown Flattie with two 94's up top

Chrome reverse rims and a 2 inch suspension drop

He eased it out to the street and set the line lock

I knew this would not be quiet, probably wake the whole block

He revved it to 6 grand and let the clutch pop

As the rubber and smoke poured from the tires I spotted a cop!

He released the line lock and let that Ford loose

This baby was ALL MOTOR with no signs of Juice!

He fishtailed sideways, grabbed Third with plenty of guts

With Police in chase he screamed out

"MAKE SURE YOU USE LOCKTITE SO YOU DON'T LOOSE YOUR NUTS!"

I once saw a set of heads with the "Z5" Casting Number. The guy told me that he researched it a lot and finally found that it indicated that the "Z" prefix was used on Sunbeam Tiger Parts. I knew a Sunbeam Tiger Guru and asked he about it and he confirmed it. So your mystery is solved....

It was good to meet you Greg. I met some other members of the site, but missed some also as I was out shopping. The distance between buildings brings a whole new meaning to the cliche, 'shop til you drop'... A special thanks goes out to Dan Trapp, President of the Mustang Club of Ohio, for his generous contribution to the site.

For all of you going to the Columbus Ford Superswap Meet and want to meet and chat, why don't we meet at my Vendor Space at 5:00pm on Friday, and 4:00pm on Saturday. My Vendor Space is in the Buckeye Building, Space F-27. Everyone have a happy Thanksgiving and for those traveling, have a safe trip. I look forward to seeing you there. Regards, Marv.

Thanks, I really appreciate that. It was a lot of work as the 3rd Edition Masters were destroyed in a fire. I wanted to go all digital in the 4th Edition, but just not that quickly. I think that the bigger, brighter, clearer pictures add a lot to the book and I tried to add additional content as well; along with the usual correction we find between each edition. Thanks again.

We will be researching this topic and have everything resolved for the 5th Edition. If it ends up like we think it will, that is the early cars did not have the Rear Frame Rail Reenforcement Plates, then we will note it and also say the earlier editions were incorrect. We will get this resolved for sure.
