Jeff, when did the SJ plant put the wire clamps into production? Thanks, Dave
The belief is that their use started with 66 production at San Jose - Kevin Marti researched the issue years ago and came to the same conclusion at that time.
Just checked the three period mag test articles on 66 GT350s I have:
March 66 Popular Hot Rodding test car has tower clamps. No doubt this is an early car but it is not white so isn't a carry-over.
August 66 Motor Trend article comparing a stock and Paxton car. The carburated car has wire clamps while the Paxton car has generic band style clamps like you buy today so I'm guessing they were changed out?
September 66 Popular Hot Rodding test Paxton car has the generic band style clamps. I'm certain this is the same car from the Aug. 66 M/T article.

Hi Ed, could you please post the info? Thanks, Dave

Hi Bo, not a 65 but don't think that should make a difference. Here's a pic of my original 66 bar and you can see the the lower arm is welded with the angle forward when installed. Dave

Lots of discussion about this including several posts by Amy Boylan, president of Shelby Automobiles, on the Shelby Forum.....

I've never dealt with the aboss guy, and maybe this is an honest mistake on their part, but the description for ebay item# 320177396845 is not true. These are not obsolete from Ford, I bought two from a local Ford dealer just last week for under $4 each.

FWIW the date code on the rear Mexican cap I have is 31E2 and it has a rope pin hole. The cap is also cast with a "3" instead of a "5".
-
Chuck, do you know the origin of your caps? Is it possible the 1-4 caps are Mexican with the dates ground off? I did some image analysis on the pic of your caps Bob posted using software I have available at work and find "possible" evidence of what's left of the date code "pad" usually seen on Mexican caps on cap#2. Also on caps 3 and 4 are possible traces of the cast "screw" seen on the Mexican cap pad. This doesn't explain the rear cap unless it is a very early (transition?) Mexican cap. Dave

This is very interesting. Chuck's rear cap and the Mexican cap have the same 6329 casting number. I have a set of Mexican caps but they only have the date code on the rear cap.

Original collectors are 2.5 inch. Is there really a brand out there that is so bad they hit the shock tower on right side?
As Mike mentions Jim Cowles has exact reproductions in both standard and big tube sizes but they are very expensive.
-
Troy, what kind of coil are you using? If it's a repop, even one of the new "improved" ones I would ditch it. They definitely have heat related issues.

I had my 66 set rechromed in the early 90's for about $425. Jim's estimate is probably more towards the higher end these days.

Added my vote Phil, looking forward to the ride! Dave

There are absolutely no numbers stamped into the flange, or ever have been. The pump has the button top and both the springs are there and intact.
Can you post some pics? Never seen an NOS pump without the Carter number and date code on the flange. I've seen lots of rebuilt pumps, even very nice ones, where the numbers were erased during the rebuilding process. Also, what color is the lower spring? Thanks.

I bought a set from Dove about 6-7 years ago that I'm still using. Can't comment on if they fit under stock HiPo VC's but I remember choosing them because of their low profile and was looking for all the clearance I could get. I found the receipt but unfortunately it doesn't have a part#.

Nice job Merlyn, well deserved!
