    Jim,

Your info on the voltage regulator condensers (capacitor) matches what I have seen. I have a used C3SA-18832-A with the same markings you describe that I believe came from a 65 Mustang. It's actually a T-Bird part number, used on 63-65 birds, but was also apparently used on 64.5-65 Mustangs. The one on my late March 66 San Jose built car is a C6OA-18832-A FoMoCo but can't be sure if it is original. I also have a NOS C6OA-18832-A Autolite like you describe. I've also seen one or two C5OA FoMoCo's on ebay but they seem very rare. The C3SA and both C6OA's I have are physically identical.

Does anyone have any info on the production windows for these different engineering numbers?

Don't know about the ones in the ebay link Z.Ray posted above but most of the ones you find on ebay are stamped C6OA so would be for 66 and later. The C5 ones are pretty rare. The 64.5-early 65 Mustangs may have used the C3SA stamped one until the C5's came out but not sure about that.

I have a friend whose brother is the long time owner of 5S562, the last 65 GT350 VIN made. He confirmed the car still has it's original engine which was originally equipped with a cast iron water pump. He didn't know the assembly date but if I find that out will post it here as well.

You need to login to the site, not just to reply to a message. The login field is on the left side of the page. After you do that go to the main forum page and there will be a section at the bottom called Private Messages, but it's only visible if you login. It will show if you have any PM's.

Bo, I believe the star logo plugs disappeared sometime in 1967. It appears there was a brief period where the plugs didn't have a star logo but also did not say Powertip, I have two BF-32's like that. I think the Powertip plugs started showing up in 1968. I do think your info about the three ridges in the ceramic being pre-1965 is correct.

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Hi Bo,

Thanks, that's good info. I just wonder how accurate box dates are? I have some NOS parts in blue Ford boxes that have 1966 printed on them but the parts and boxes are clearly much later, more likely from the 70's or 80's.

    Quote from marv

The BF-42s were used on the regular 289s- not sure about the six cylinders.

Right, my question is if anyone has an idea when the switch from three to five ridges in the ceramic was made. I've never seen a set with three ridges before these. Six cylinders used BF-82.

A question about the BF-42's I have for sale.....they have three ridges in the ceramic instead of the usual five. I've never seen a set like this but assume they are early OE plugs? Anyone know when the change from three to five ridges happened? Thanks.

Interesting. From what I've observed the supply of 5A dated bases lasted well into 66 production until the 6A dated bases started showing up. The original base on my late March 66 San Jose car is dated 6C so I would expect an April 66 car to have something like that. I can think of several scenarios how your car got a 5A base but probably something we'll never know for sure.......

    Chuck,

My original cast iron close ratio T-10 has a March 1, 1966 assembly date. Best guess is the car had a scheduled San Jose build date of March 29. It was shipped from Shelby American to Hi-Performance Motors on May 9.

The casting numbers on the main case are:

    T10 H-1

    W.G. Div.

    W-1

    Rear case numbers are:

    T10 H-7B

    W.G. Div.

    K 23 65

    Hope this helps,

    Dave

Start hitting the swapmeets, especially ones not focused solely on Fords or Mustangs, and you might get lucky. I have found two original San Jose 4-speed rads in the past few years this way. Paid $20 for one and $25 for the other, both good cores.

There is a two row material available called MX-2. It is just slightly thicker, about 0.25", than the original two row core but still fits in the original side straps and uses stock fan shroud brackets. In theory it has a cooling capacity between a three and four row core. I had an original rad recored with it, am currently running it in my car where it has worked great.
