speaking of runs. I'm down to what I believe to be the original finish on the inner fender walls. Ford sure was sloppy with my car. Several runs throughout... So far, nearly every part I've taken off has an original FoMoCo part number, so my car is still very original.

My battery cables even have FoMoCo tags/stickers wrapped around them, but no stamping. See the pics of the battery tray above and you can see the cables. Are these original or simply incorrect? I was planning on replacing them as they are a bit rough.

Excuse my ignorance - my voltage regulator cap has no marking currently, but I wish to replace it or at least order the correct decal. My conv. is a '66 with NO A/C, but I do have a Power Top. Should I have the C5AF-COVER or the

C5TF-COVER. I believe one has yellow print and the other is silver.

    Thanks,

    Troy

I pulled the exhuast manifolds the other day and they desperately need some attention. Was going to drop off at the sandblasters, but then I'm wondering what to do with them. Are any of the DIY coatings any good? The car is always garaged and rarely wet. High temp variations in the garage here in MN as it's unheated. I'd rather only do this once in the next 10 years.

I was also wondering about the fasteners. My car is a very late '66 and it currently had the locks installed between the bolts like the early style. Should my car have the ramplock bolts without the locks? Do they work as well? I also would be interested in a Stainless Steel solution (I'm using all the SS fasteners that I can under the hood as it's a driver and not a judged show car). I noticed that VA Mustang has a SS bolt set with locking washers as well as a version that uses the buddy locks. Any reason why I shouldn't use the SS bolts with the lock washers from VA Mustang. The AMK website also lists some but they are for use with buddy type locks and are nearly twice the price.

While putting together a wish list of parts for my current project, I've been looking at various catalogs. Prices highly variable for same parts and some vendors carry Ford tooling parts of certain items that others don't even mention.

What do you all recommend? I noticed VA Mustang seems to have better pricing than NPD on some items, but are the items really any different? I have to go to other places to get other parts they don't have. Sure makes things fun! Any obsucre parts vendors for the good stuff at reasonable pricing you can all share? Right now I'm only concerned with underhood items and such.

Anybody ever try a reproduction hood molding for a '66 Mustang? NPD and VA list a cheap one for under $15. I've also seen expensive $45 ones elsewhere? I also noticed VA Mustang has a new overlay that goes ON TOP of the current pitted console inserts. Still a bit pricey, but maybe they work OK? Any experience with these pieces?

    1. Hood Latch assembly: - Still looks pretty good. Some surface rust on the other vertical piece not shown. I can't tell if this was painted previously or not. What is the finish supposed to be? Should I paint it? If so, what color.

    2. Fan - Looks pretty good. Paint even looks good on front smooth side. Back side seems to have a texture of some sort. One of the blades says FoMoCo. How should I finish this and any suggestions on how to refinish the spacer while I'm at it? Oh yea, the 4 bolt heads don't match on the front of this thing either.

    3. Washer pump - Can this rusty thing be saved or should I replace it. Any ideas on how I can refinish it? I assume the bracket and 2 bolts should not be black or should they?

OK, after years of putting it off, I finally started dismanteling my engine compartment for detailing. I'll be needing much help, so thanks in advance. I need to figure out what to refurbish and what to replace. Got any advice on these items?

My goal for this project is not to create a concours show car. I want this to remain a nice driver, but when I open the hood I want people to see what a K code should look like, while still remaining driveable. If I'm painting parts, I should at least attempt to paint it the right color - hence the research needed on this.

    1. Fan Shroud and Radiator: Please help identify if this is an original shroud. It has lots of gunked up paint which will be difficult to strip. I'm thinking of simply scuffing and topcoating. The current finish is glossier than the engine bay walls - similar to the sheen on the fan and brackets. The radiator top currently has a full gloss coat and is the only thing under the hood that does. What sheens are correct for these parts? Are the ugly welds at the top of my radiator correct? Any other advice?

    2. Battery Tray: This was really fun to get off! As you can see very rusty on top of tray, but otherwise very solid. Should I reuse or buy the cheap replacement in the catalog? The rust converter costs way more than the replacement, but how good is the part?

Thanks - I'll try that! When I re-attach the hoses later, should I use any sealer or soap or something of that nature on the inside of the hoses?

I appreciate your help. Stay tuned for more as I continue to take things off my beloved Mustang. I'm attempting a restoration of the underhood area and am finding many surprises along the way.

My other biggest concern is the wiring. I want to replace it or refurbish much of it but I'm concerned about getting everything routed correctly when it's time to reassemble. Photos and notes only go so far. Everytime I unplug something, I lose my reference point from the last removed item! Any suggestions?

    Troy

OK, last summer I got all new fresh hoses and clamps including the latest ford script Concours type stuff. Now I have to remove the radiator and I can't figure out how to remove the tower clamps without damaging them. I can easily remove the screw/bolt, but I can't get the clamp to losen. Is there a trick to this........

Yes, I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff - please forgive my ignorance.

Yea, but lot #633 - '66 A code GT in a great color combo only went for $42K? I don't think that '65 was $20K better. The '66 is a car I know as it is local - wins all the time and is an awesome car. Price seems soft on that one.

Good thing he didn't sell the K code GT 'vert he still has in the garage - also a red '66 that wins shows every time.
