How often would you recommend rebuilding your carb with a kit? Consider a seasonal cruiser with about 1K miles a year....

Enjoy it for what it is until you are sick of it, and wear it out a little. When you are ready to redo it, you can put it back to original. For now, drive the snot out of it and have fun!

Yea, I understand where you are coming from with the upfront hit. However, a car like this convertible without an engine and needing just about everything will cost WELL over the going rate for a finished car when it's all done (: It may be worth restoring, but I was just a little surprised by the final sale price.

I might have an Autolite.... stick shift of course..?

Yes, mine is a 4 speed.
I'm 0/2 on the 4100 experience. Purchased 2 "restored" ones (2 diff cars)in the last few years and neither of them worked. They sure looked beautiful, though. At the prices these are going for, it's just so damn risky and aggravating. Of course at these commanding prices, people are "restoring" cores that probably should be thrown away. I must be getting those 4100s... bad luck!!
I'd be happy with a 4100 1.12 with a manual choke that simply worked correctly (no need for fake clone stamping and fancy plating)

If you get the larger fender-style washers you can keep them in place. Once I have them secured and the screws are snug I put a little dab of silicone on the screw head where it meets the washer; this is an old off-road racing trick to keep the screws from shaking loose. I never did understand why Ford felt two screws would work when it was obvious they should have had three.
Got a picture or size spec (so I can get a set at the Hardware store) of a "larger fender style" washer? I'm having difficulty picturing what you are talking about. Also, seems that would necessitate a rebalance - we know how fun that is with SS wheels ):
I've also had 2 of them "seperate" as described in this thread. After carefully JB welding them back together, they would pop off when tightening the cap to the wheel (UUGGHHH!!!!)

I'd use the Autolite if I had one (:
I've had the Holley on there for 15+ years (without a filter). Am I lucky or what??

Will it be in Columbus for the spring swap? If so, I can put you in touch with a professional in these matters who will be there who can help you out.

Maybe it's too late to get his cooperation, but it would be helpful for you to have a document prepared by KM explaining his rationale based on the "facts" that he has assembled on this matter. You can use this to present to the judges if you need to. What does Charles T. say about this?

Any comments on this purchase? Seems like really strong money and a great price for the seller. I'm surprised that I continue to see these cars failing to reach good sale prices in fully restored condition, but the projects keep going for too much money.

Heck, I'd be happy with a solution to keep mine on the wheels!!! I like how they fall off in my hand during washing and/or while I'm driving down the road - "Jeez, I had a center cap there when I left home..."

My Kar doesn't have a fuel filter, and is running a Holley Carb. Do they make a screw in filter that will work like the original Autolite? If not, what inline fuel filter would you recommend. I'll probably place it in front of the fuel pump as I don't want an ugly fuel filter dangling in front of the carb and want a stock appearance. Is there a good low profile filter I could use?
Thanks,
Troy

Raylon - Isn't that just the term to describe the 80/20 Rayon/Nylon blend? So, 100% Raylon is still 80/20 Rayon/Nylon??
I checked ACC website, and they still only list the 80/20 blend.
Anybody know if there truly is a difference in this year's vs last year's carpet, other than a terminology difference?

OK, so how is AB different from GB? Does one have more or less green/red in it or something? How would you describe the difference?
Thanks,
Troy

OK, Guardsman, Caspian, Acapulco, presidential.... What's the difference?
I know Nightmist well, it's very dark. How is Guardsman different from Acapulco, and presidential different from Caspian?

World of Wheels was last week, and "Ivy" took an "Outstanding in Class" award. I was thrilled, and surprised. My "driver" took home some really nice hardware in the past 6 months at the shows, and I've been very surprised and pleased. It's fun going in with little or no expectations. I can't imagine how stressful it is for those of you who have real nice show cars that really like to compete. I saw a lot of frustrated owners over the weekend that didn't get the awards they were after...
