Mine also have M-1 embossed on the end of the rods in the bushing area. ................."

both vintage & current traction master bars have the M-! cast in the rod ends. As pointed out above , the brackets are the more certain method to date your traction bars

Were there any Ford dealer option traction bars that were available in 1965?

My 64.5 K Convertible has a Traction Bar installed on it. My car has a factory 4.11 rear end. The traction bar has M-1 markings on both ends.

It looks like it is an aftermarket product/instalation, but I would like to install a period correct, Ford product. Are there any that will not distract from my car, if i took it to a show?

you have traction master bars. They might be vintage or new. Either way the same company made them:

I never heard of them coming from the Ford factory. They did come on most 1966 Shelby GT-350's.

What kind of show are we talking about ? MCA concours ?

Z. Ray

yes, please do. I'm curious to see what happens with the T-10 in place.

Z Ray,

I have an early 65 K Code fastback, which I swore I would never sell, but a Shelby would be one exception. It's an optioned up pre-GT. Poppy red, white pony code but has std seats, console, disk brakes. 71k original miles. Restored about 10 years ago. I've owned it the last 7 years and have put less than 1k miles on it. Not perfect, but in good shape. E-mail me if you'd like more info - carfifteen@yahoo.com

Thank you,

Darren

Z.Ray,

Was going to drive it. It has been a 7 year dream of mine which I almost gave up twice. But I have always wanted a Shelby.

Wally

Hey Wally,

What about a 1965 Black exterior, black deluxe interior K code 4 speed fastback with original drivetrain, tranny and rearend. All has been rebuilt. I assume it is an original GT as it had the correct stamped fog light holes, wiring harness when I bought it.

The car is currently undergoing a full restoration with all NOS sheetmetal when replaced. What would be the price difference for that?

Thanks, Wallace

Now that sounds very nice!

sure does, what are your plans for the car after the restoration ?

Why? Just a hankerin' for something different?

more or less, yes. There are several cars I'd like to own (again) before I get too ancient to enjoy them. Selling or trading off the GT-350 would free up some $$$ to pursue them.

Mainly ones I had in the '60's & early '70's: an early '60's XKE, a Triumph TR-4a, '64 Galaxie, K code fastback, etc.

Z. Ray

that comparison is too complicated for my limited brainpower. I'm needing help with my original question where there is only one variable.

Ray, how about a 70 boss 302.

no doubt a more advanced car, but that body style is not my weakness (yet).

thanks,

Z. Ray

I'm thinking of trading my '66 GT-350 for a '66 K code fastback of similar quality, if there is such a thing.

What dollar or percentage price differential should (or would) there be, all other things equal?

The GT-350 in question is unrestored, but mechanically maintained. All Shelby pieces intact, but the K code specific fuel & water pumps have been replaced at some point along the way.

Z. Ray

the photo of a koni in the ad mentioned above is not representative of of the ones for sale

Z. Ray

I don't know if my '66 is exactly the same as a '65, so I hesitate to give you any advice. Hopefully someone with a '65 will respond.

If not try the vintage mustang forum

there may be some photos here that may be helpful to you.

great to hear it worked out. Did your stock linkage hook up to it, or did you have to fabricate something ?

Z.

Jim Cowles does these. He's restored a few for me & knows what he is doing.

OK, Thanks.

I think the 14401-A2 will be the one I need.

Do you know what this kit contans? Fusebox?

I don't think anyone makes the fuse box. Call NPD to confirm.

Z. Ray

cobraboy, I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that you could make a 3/8" mistake like that.

Z.

there are several Holley carbs that would work well with your car.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-0-80570/

or

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-65-80457/

Pony carbs are in the business of selling Autolite carbs, so they are never going to recommend a Holley to you. That said, I've had several carbs restored by them, and was very satisfied each time. If you want to have the car more original, get the Autolite. If that's not a primary concern get a Holley. either way you will have a good product.
