thanks Z
i had a local mechanic put a new one in
as he has a lift
he found that the gas outlet nipple
on the sender unit was not soddered completely!!
a faulty part from NPD!!
will return it today
fortunately, i had a spare for the K car
and my son is back on the road again!!
thanks for all your help
iowa
it turns out
that it was probably overflow
out of the radiator.
our rubber tube only extends
down to the upper level of the frame
and we had filled the radiator to the cap!
it doesn't leak now
iowa
is there any good tips on how to do this?
i searched and did not find a thread on this topic
iowa
my apologies on using this photo
and regards to the source of it,
it is a very nice one indeed!!
it shows 3 springs used on the mechanical set up!!!!
(need the shocked expression here)
this seems like it would put a lot of pressure
on the clutch pedal?
we have only one spring that goes from the
clutch release lever to a forward point.
it is a very strong spring (too strong)
as it takes a strong leg to push clutch down.
in this picture
it looks like a little spring from the lever
to the Bell H
and then a bigger spring from the lower Z bar to the frame
(where?)

here is the Shop Manual picture again.
it isn't very clear
just where the clutch lever sping attaches?
does anyone have a good picture?
thanks

here is a pretty good link on VMF
for Hydraulic Clutch's
iowa
http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/vintage-mustan…tch-set-up.html
in reference to the spring
that attaches to the clutch release lever
and hooks on to something in the forward area,
i see from the diagram above
that it attaches through a hole in the frame?
does anyone have a picture that
shows exactly where this hole is
or can describe where it is at?
thanks
iowa
well, it's not a hipo
so will just get a new one
for about $45!
iowa
speaking of leaks
we saw the tell-tale
pool of antifreeze in the inner pulley!
man....the pump was only out for a few months
and the seal must have dried out
any chance of it stopping on it's own
or is replacement always necessary?

thanks fred
why do they angle up?
did the next piece of exhaust
back to the muffler
compensate for this angle?
iowa
i thot i had bought the hipo H pipe
from NPD as we had put hipo exh manifolds
on my son's car
i remember we had to pull the driver's
side into place and it didn't fit perfect
here is a picture
iowa
[Blocked Image: http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/500/medium/2011_02_21_020_H_pipe_bend.jpg]
when we installed the H pipe
the rear-ward ends are tilted up
at an angle
is this normal?
or are the ends at the exh manifolds
fitting wrong?
thanks
iowa
will know to avoid the chrome parts!
but planned on using the original anyway
good news: patrick's did not leak!!
we are good to go!!
iowa
we just discovered that ours leaked too!
i had filled up with antifreeze
and here it came dripping out the bottom bolt hole also!!![]()
we took it off
cleaned the surfaces (some pitting)
used the straight edge check
new gasket and liberal black silicone
and let dry overnight
will see today if it leaks
hopefully not as we don't want to replace
the aluminum 'edelbrock' intake manifold'
will let you know what happens
iowa
these gaskets show a lot of width
when i tighten down the bolts
of the outer flat part
i can still see most of it when tightened
is this okay?
also, does anyone have a detailed picture of
how the carb side of the throttle linkage looks
the repro throttle rod simply has a 'L' elbow
which goes through the carb throttle plate
but what holds it from coming out?
thanks
iowa
sorry
another dumb Q
for some reason
i have two different types of gaskets
that go between the hipo exhaust manifolds
and the 'H' pipes
see picture below
one is wider than the other
which would be correct for a hipo?
thanks
iowa

very interesting![]()
should be finishing up on patrick's car
in the next few days
THEN
back to what i need to be working and posting on....
my K Kar!!
iowa
there was no easy way to get this
new clutch release lever (fork) spring in place
i almost gave up
and then after slipping a screwdriver off
this spring while lifting up on it
it was in place!![Blocked Image: http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/500/medium/2011_02_17_010_fork_spring_on_fulcrum.jpg]
thanks fred
i had called Bruce at 'Modern Driveline'
and he also said the same thing
i read the entire section
in the shop manual
and it wasn't there!
