Mark,
I only checked the mileage on one leg of my trip and that was on the return and I got 18.2 MPG which really surprised me. Keep in mind that I do not have the original carb - I have a 1.08 venturi Autolite modified for manual choke.

Drove down to the MCA show in Mustang, Oklahoma this past weekend and it was a good weekend for Mustangs. There were a lot of cars there from many different states and every variety of mustang you would care to see but only one other K code (at least I only saw one)besides mine. The dirve was bout 450 miles and it was very hot on Friday for the drive down without a/c, but we made it and had a good time. That is the longest trip I have made in my K and it ran well with no issues other than it used more oil than I expected (3 quarts) - I guess I need to get my compression checked to see if it time for some maintenance. It was my first MCA national event and it seemed to be very well organized.
I had a lot of people stop by and talk about the K and there seemed to be a lot of interest from people stopping to look. I entered the occasional driven class and got a 3rd place award - which is better than expected given the amount of rock chips I have and the undercoating on the undercarriage.

Looks like a nice car (or will be once the exhaust is complete). I really like the color combination but I do not know anything about the car.
Jack
Has the GT exhaust and instruments but not a GT. Also appears to be missing front bumper lower supports or guards. The Hurst shifter is mentioned in the description. Nice looking car overall.

Great looking car and very enjoyable article.

Cool looking jeep and the red car next to it is pretty cool too. Welcome to the site!

66 convertible on ebay with a BIN of $69,900.
Is that a 66 or deluxe instrument cluster on 65 non deluxe interior??
Jack
Just saw that the Mecum auction at Indy in May will have a 65 red/red K convertible that looks pretty nice from the few pics posted on their site. It will be interesting to see what it brings.
Jack
Hard to tell but the fan spacer looks longer than normal for a 65.
I do like the color combo!

Welcome back!

Very interesting article.

You also need to factor in the cost of getting the correct engine if you want to look at "full retail" cost.

I finally got the odd screws out (a machinist friend made me a driver for them) and found numbers stamped on the back of the clock housing "165" (see picture). Is that a unit number or date?

Can you post some pictures and how much are you asking for the carb?
Jack
Mark,
I will certainly get some pics to share.
