I was vacationing in the Ogden area of Northern Utah and found a guy with a few truckloads of Mustang parts for sale. There are no K code unique parts that I saw, but he has a multitude of 65-66 parts and some 67-68. He had a lot of sheet metal, glass, a few rear ends and instrument bezels, and host of other things buried in boxes. He seems to be a pretty straight guy, but does not know Mustangs as he is into Mopars. I picked up a couple of things and the prices were reasonable, and he seems to be motivated to move things. His name is Cris and he can be reached at 801 726-3159. For those in the area, he is in Layton which is between Ogden and Salt Lake.

PS he had no fast back interior trim pieces that I could find, but did have 2/3rds of a fold down seat. He also had one set of extractors (outside and sliding vents)but without the inside fiberglass/grill pieces.

Thanks to Joe's lead to Mr G's, I now have set of camera black inserts. To change my original bezel request, does anyone have an original woodgrain instrument bezel that they would part with? They show up on the local Craigslist fairly regularly so I know I will find one, but thought I would check here also.

    Thanks,

    Jay

Thanks for the info guys. I am guessing that while the PO did some incorrect things in his resto (66 seat covers and door panels), he did not change the cluster as that would have required a wiring change. Hopefully it was only a bezel change and I will be able to set it right without too much effort.

Are you sure that the instrument cluster itself is correct?

The 1965 GT/pony 5 gauge cluster is different from the 1966 standard 5 gauge cluster, regardless of what the instrument cluster bezel is.

No I have not confirmed I have the '65 gauge cluster. All of the work was done by a previous owner and so I will find out what I have when I take the cluster out to replace the bezel. Hopefully, I will not be looking for more parts after I get to that point......

I had actually considered buying an original wood grain version and making a camera black insert, but thought I would check to see if anyone had anything available. If there is nothing, I will go with a repro as I have heard from many sources that the current one is a very nice piece. Alternatively, does anyone make a camera black insert that I could use on a woodgrain part? I have looked in the past, but never found one.

    66gtk,

Thanks for the offer on the glove box door, but I am OK with what I have.

I am looking for an original 1965 GT 5 gauge cluster bezel that is in good to excellent condition to replace the '66 one that is my car. Unfortunately, I sold mine many years ago before I realized the 65s were different than the 66 versions.

    Thanks,

    Jay

    BillG,

In case 66Tiger cannot help, I might be able to. I have owned a Mk1 and Mk1A Tiger in the past and still have a few books on them. I tried to e-mail you at the address you gave, (trying to avoid thread hijacking) but it came back as undeliverable. PM me if you need anything.

I went out and looked again at the tranny in my car. With more cleaning and a better light I was able to find a VIN where Fred said it would be. On mine it was just in front of the drain plug on the passenger side and was poorly aligned, and a couple of numbers very faint. If the owner of 5F07K672304 is on the forum, I have the tranny from your car. I checked the registry and it did not have this car in it.

Not sure of the history on the Toploader as I picked it up at a swap meet. I thought from this thread that the HEH-T was unique to the K codes, but it sounds like that may not be correct. My main reason for wanting to know was I am returning to my car to street and will eventually be pulling the toploader and putting the aluminum T-10 back in. When I do this I would like the toploader to go back to its original car if it came from a K code.

I know this is an old thread but based on it, I finally got under my car to check out the transmission I have. I have a gt350 and in the '90s I pulled the T-10 and replaced it with a toploader to go racing. The toploader I have is an HEH-T with 014050 but I have been unable to find a VIN stamped on it. With the tranny still in the car, it is tough to see everywhere, but have checked all of the bottom surfaces without finding anything. Does anyone have any insight into the most probable place to look? I will try again, but would like to focus on the places that are most probable.

    Thanks,

I chased a similar problem and ultimately found the threaded portion of the stud was not long enough to allow proper tightening of the carb to the manifold. I would think I had everything cinched up tight and everything looked good, but it was only cinched up tight to the stud. It is easy to check, just remove the front nuts and look to see if you can see the shoulder of the stud.
