No worries there. I just installed the new seats a few days ago. The interior is really looking good now. There are only a few more items to bring up to par.

Progress pics posted. Big thanks to my buddy Scott who owns Heritage Customs.

He installed a new gas tank and sending unit, cleaned and repainted the trunk (including getting rid of some surface rust), and reinstalled the stock steering wheel.

Under the hood the car now wears the correct hipo air cleaner, a "clone" hipo Autolite 4100 carb has replaced the Holley 750 DP, a new fuel pump and lines, and the battery is back where it belongs. He got rid of most of the ugly wire mesh hose stuff and did a little paint work as well.

I also just had the exhaust redone from the manifolds back. The 20 year old pipes on the car just weren't cutting it.

Next on the list are new seats and a dash pad for the interior and a bit more cleaning and painting in the engine compartment.

Would you consider registering your really nice looking Koupe on our web site?

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

Thanks for all of the compliments everyone! The car is progressing a little bit and I hope to have some new pics up soon.

I did register the car on the site but never got a confirmation. Now it says the car is already in the registry when I plug in the VIN. I'm not sure what's going on...

Where does this number "5469 K codes produced for 1966" come from? I have heard it before, but have never seen a source document.

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

Its from the stats page for this website and I've seen the number on several other sites as well...

I'm guessing that even though the detailed production documents have been destroyed, maybe the numbers come from a simple VIN count looking for the "K" in there.

Congrats on the car Dave & welcome aboard. You'll find this site extremely helpful reguarding any questions you might have on your K. I am just down the hill from you in Granite Bay, give me a shout if you're ever in the area cruising your car (send me a pm for phone #'s).

Thanks, Chuck! I will definitely send you a PM. My parents live in Roseville so I'm often in the area. Do you ever make it to the Wednesday night show at Red Robin in Folsom? I'm going to try to make it there this week and if not, then next week.

What about the 930 automatic Hertz cars that certainly would have been included in the Ford numbers? I think this discounts that number.

I don't believe any of the Shelby cars were included in the 5469 K codes produced for 1966. They had their own Shelby VIN's.

I just picked up my K code coupe last weekend. You can check it out in the new member introductions. It is an interesting little car... a very bare bones coupe. The only options besides the drivetrain were a console and a remote mirror. It is a non GT and even came with hubcaps originally.

Here's the kicker: I read that the C4 automatic was only available late '66 and '67. The previous owner said that his research showed that it was one of 250 with the K code automatic. I know Ford destroyed all of their production records. Are there any other resources to know how rare this combination really is?

It really is a cool little car... the stripper base model with the big motor. It had to be special ordered. Any help would be great!

Thanks for all of the kind words everyone! A little spit and polish will go a long ways. I've got a lead on a correct date coded intake and a 4100 carb. I'm also getting rid of the quad exhaust and the wire mesh hose "dress up" (more like throw up) under the hood. I'm also putting the right air cleaner back on the car. The wood steering wheel is coming off for the original black one.

I just brought her home last Sunday. She's a 1966 coupe with a rare C4 automatic. The previous owner seemed to think that it is one of fewer than 250. I have to do a little more research but the car is matching numbers and only 137K original miles. I have a lot of clean up and some "uncustomizing" to do but I couldn't resist snapping some shots and posting them. I'm very interested to hear what you guys have to say about the car. She's no show car but she's a keeper and it will be great to have something to enjoy while my '65 fastback slowly progresses. Here are the details:
