Saw this on e-bay. 66 convertible look with a fastback removable hardtop. I like it!!! Best of both worlds, fastback for the sleek look, and convertible for top down cruising.

    Item description:

"This is a beautifully restomod example of a 1966 Mustang Coupe that was turned into a Convertible Roadster with a removable Fastback Roof. It runs great, drives great, looks great, and the attention it gets is extreme!"

There must be a reason seller has taped over the second half of the vin#. Can you say "rebody"? I'm not sure why seller is including a separate front clip, since most of the metal work seems to be from the firewall back, not the firewall forward. It's going to cost way more $'s in metal work & parts acquisition, to restore this car, than it would have been to wait & buy one done. Granted, there aren't as many out there in the 67 year, but they come up for sale once in a while. Yikes!

The vin numbers look larger than factory. Homemade vin stamping? Metal distorts in at stamping. Question: Were the vin #' stamped in the loose aprons prior to body assembly, or when body was already assembled and coming down the line? If the latter, they must have used some type of body buck under each stamping to prevent distortion of the metal.

How about the rubber vacuum line connections from hard line from manifold to tranny? Any cracks or breaks, especially at the modulator valve on the tranny? You can use a propane torch (small hand held type) with a piece of rubber tubing as an extension, turn on the propane (without lighting it) and run the hose end around the manifolds (with engine running), & carb gaskets, ect and the engine will usually idle up higher when you get to an area of a vacuum leak.

Is it driveable in it's current state? If not, that would probably double what someone would have to pay to have the car shipped. Any accident damage? Your other post says no rot, does it have any rust at all? Is the engine/tranny vin stamped? Are all the K specific accessories on the engine? These are all some of the variables that can determine value.

As mentioned above, pic's are a big help. It's hard to put an estimate on a car based on a written description. One persons idea of "rust free" and "matching numbers" can be different from what others believe. Detailed pictures will go a long way in determining value/selling your car. You could probably find a buyer right here on this forum with some pic's.

Gerry, You might try some of the self-serve type wrecking yards. I don't know if they have many back east, but they are plentiful around here on the west coast. Find a 60's or 70's vintage station wagon or full size Ford, they typically ran a 9" with anywhere from a 2.75-3.50 ratio, most common units are the 3.25's which is a good all around setup. Fairly inexpensive as long as you don't mind doing alittle wrenching to get them out, and can check the spline count. Also, the full sized Fords rear gear sets rarely got abused and are usually in pretty good shape.

I have the same dilema in my 65 KFB, with 3.89 gears using first gear seems like a waste of time unless you are drag racing. Thought about the gear set change, but I think I'm going to go the 5 spd. route, so i can cruise it on the freeways.

Mike, Welcome aboard! Great to hear your Koupe survived to live another day. Post a picture of your car, chances are there are enough mustang fanatics on this site that have kept every monthly mustang magazine every published (myself included). A picture and the approximate date might narrow the search to find the articles about your car.

Hello and thanks for viewing my Mustang. The car is a three owner car that was sold and remained in California until 2006. It is a black plate car and I have the original plates. It is a real K code built by the San Jose plant in June of 1965. I was going to change the car over to a GT; factory disc and handling pk. I have decided to just sell a few other cars so I can finish my other projects. Still retains its original matching number engine and rear end. The transmission swap and power steering ad was performed by a previous owner. It currently has a 5 speed; I will change it back to a toploader 4 speed if desired by the winning bidder..... The 9" rear end ratio is still the original 3:50 open axle. Engine was bebuilt recently and runs great; car is dry as a bone underneath and has no leaks inside or out. This car has no rust.. The fit and finish are like the day it left the factory. Paint is a few years old and is a good driver quality. Everything works correctly as it should. Car can be driven across country if need be. It is missing the original carb and exhaust manifolds. Currently has a 600 Holley, aftermarket aluminum intake and tri-y headers. The rally-pac is a '66' model. I will be happy to answer any questions. If you are looking for a nice tight hipo, this is the car! I am also selling some other cars in this ad.... see additional pics. *** PLEASE DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU INTEND TO BUY THE CAR!

    Vehicle Description

Up for auction is a 1965 Ford Mustang K-Code fastback. To start, I'll break down the VIN. 5T09K149900 - One of the very first K-Code fastbacks to come out of Metuchen, NJ. Body - 63A - Standard interior Fastback. Color - A - Raven Black. Trim - D6 - White with black (Gorgeous!) Date - 08R - Serialized April 8th, 1965. DSO 26 - Washington DC. Transmission - 5 - 4 Speed Toploader. Rear Axle - 5 - 3.50:1 Open differential. This car needs help, but can be saved. A lot of the body panels have already been cut out of the car by a previous owner. I am including with car what I believe is the neatest part that almost no one has ever seen. Everyone has seen the complete floorboard assembly for classic Mustangs, right? Well, I've got a brand new floorboard assembly that includes rails, transition panel, the rear trunk floor and rear crossmember all one piece. You'll save hundreds of hours of welding and fitting. A rust-free cowl (very hard to find) comes with it. The original drive train (engine, trans, differential) is long gone. If the high bidder wants, I have complete date-code correct (5C30) engine (car was built 5D1), HEH-BX toploader and a 9" housing. There is an incorrect 9" untapered housing in the car right now. These parts will only be offered to the high bidder. Also comes with bucket seats and interior trim (quarter trim, fold-down seat, etc). Comes with all of the original glass; it's factory tinted (EXTREMELY RARE), but the windshield is broken. The HCC-AX steering box is included. I have the car's title in hand, and all of the original VIN stampings are present, as well as the door tag. I realize some people might want to buy the car for the title and re bodying it, but I don't want to see that. This car can and should be saved. I'll let the pictures to speak for themselves. If you know how to weld, this is the project for you. What you see is on the car is what you get, along with the floorpan. Why am I selling? I'm retiring, and I don't have the time, money or patience to deal with this project (I have many more projects that I have to do before this one). The car is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I canceled my last auction due to dozens of people asking me how much to ship an engine block, despite the fact that I gave the weight, dimensions and location clearly in the ad. For the sake of accuracy, please seek your own shipping quote from a local trucking company. I will require a 10% deposit on the car within 7 business days, and full payment within 14 business days. I have a clear title in hand that can be transferred as soon as payment clears. Please don't email me asking if I'll take a cheque for twice the car's worth, and ask that I send the difference to Nigeria. I'm not stupid. Keep in mind you're not bidding to take a look at the car. If you're high bid, you're the lucky new owner. The reserve is appropriate for a K-Code fastback in this shape. Good luck!

*This car has had so much of the unibody/structure removed that I am unsure how it could be moved without tweaking the chassis.

    Vehicle Description

Up for auction/sale: an original 1966 K-Code HiPo GT Coupe Mustang. This is a factory HiPo GT coupe with pony interior and I guarantee the authenticity of this Mustang’s pedigree. As you see the car in the photos is how it left Ford except there is no motor or transmission. It’s a factory dark blue, 4-speed (code 5), HiPo with 2-tone pony interior. The original paint (what’s left of it) is still on this car as is the original AM radio. I do not have a HiPo 289 or 4-speed transmission for this GT Mustang----so what you see is what you are purchasing. This HiPo GT does have the original Ford 9 inch rear. The floors are soft in spots, but the rails and shock towers are solid (see pictures). There is some rust around the gas tank recessed area. All the vin stampings and factory tags are original and in good shape. The driver door is rusted out along the bottom so it needs a new driver door. I got the car without the back seat, but I found an original black pony seat, which I put in this Mustang. Front seats are original. I have a clear, transferable Seattle Washington title.

Please only bid if you are serious. This HiPo is sold “as is, where is”. I expect full payment in 10-days. I have too many other projects including a new, very rough orange 1970 Boss 302. Please call Rick Barker for more info at (301) 779-0114. This would sure make a nice classic K-Code Mustang GT…..HiPo!!

Sellers response to my question about vin # being for a coupe and him needing to clarify it in his listing:

You are right. I have been so hands I didn't even check or notice. need to check in with one of my former restorers who got me the car and will update the listing/price as appropriate. Thanks for the message.

Also, does this car have the exhaust reinforcing plates under the rear seat? Hard to tell from the pic's.
