1966 Rare Mustang GT K Code HiPO 271hp Fastback

This Mustang was born on 20E-April 20, 1966, as a

63A - fastback standard interior, R - Dark Green Metallic, 26 - Black with Black interior, E - 3.50:1 locking differential, 5 - 4 speed manual transmission and delivered to the LA DSO (71), (see door data plate picture).

This Mustang continues to grow in value and provides a great invest or indulge in your nostalgic self as it is a blast to drive turns heads at all corners

Shelby ordered this exact car less the GT package to build his GT 350's, and this one has all the engine and suspension upgrades if one would like to build a replica. If not, it surely now drives, handles and performs like any GT 350 for a fraction of the cost.

We first started trying to buy the car in 1987 from a neighbor whom had two of these GT K code Fastbacks, this one and a red twin both in garage storage as he new the rarity and value of these K code mustangs. The neighbor was the third owner who had purchased the car from a fellow Seattle fire fighter who purchased the mustang in 1968 from the orginal owner also a fire fighter. Knowing the history and owners insured authenticity and originality of the car when we purchased this mustang. The only mystery is how or why the LA DSO car got to Seattle. This is an unmolested 1966 GT K code Fastback of which we are just completing a full restoration.

The restoration started in 1998 with a complete disassembly down to the unibody after purchasing the mustang from its third owner. Both the engine and transmission have the VIN stamped in the proper locations. Investigation also revealed the factory GT items.

The unibody was bead blasted and all removable body parts were sent to Canada for stripping, electrolyzing and etching and then all pieces and body were primed with DP epoxy primer. The paint is a base coat and clear coat system matched to the factory color. The primer has been on the car since about 2000 and the final finish was applied in June 2007.

The engine was bored .030 over and returned to stock with orginal crank and rods that were reconditioned. Tony Branda supplied the new hipo new cam, solid lifters, hipo push rods and all Shelby performance items including intake manifold, oil pan, tri-y headers and aluminized stock looking dual exhaust. The heads are rebuilt including hardened valve seats for use with unlead fuel. The Shelby Hi Rise intake supports a Holley manual choke carburetor.

The interior has new chrome, carpet, dash pad and headliner whilst everthing else is orginal including the vinyl seating.

The short option list includes GT equipment group, 5 original Styled Steel wheels, simulated wood grain steering wheel, 8K rally pac ( clock has been updated with quartz movement) and an orginal 8 track stereo. There is a console that was added sometime later that is not in the car.

One inch drop springs both front and back simulate the Shelby drop without drilling holes. All hard to find orginal stuff has been saved and will go with the car. The method for restoring was to refurbish orginal, purchase/find NOS, then concurs reproductions and reproduction parts as a last measure.

Buyer will be allowed an inspection of vehicle to insure satisfaction of purchase within the time between deposit and final payment is due. If buyer backs out of the purchase obligation for any reason the deposit will be kept by owner if seller is so inclined.

Up for acution is this stunning black fully restrored and very rare Hi Po Super Cyclone. Born, raised and raced in Southern California. Has original 289/271 Hi Po engine with top loader 4 speed. Larger diameter driveshaft with larger and stronger U bolts. 9" rear and 4:11 gears (now has 3:89) Former owner for safety and roadability added 65 Mustang power steering and front disc brakes. For ease of shifting a Hurst shifter replaced the Ford unit. He also added period correct Tri-Y headers with dual exhaust. Traction bars and driveshaft strap were added for occassional fun at drag strip. Mileage is believe to be original, since car was not driven for many years(history available, call). This Cyclone would be impossible to restore or duplicated for under 45K. Notice from pictures, prevous owner did not like a lot of chrome. Really gives car a more racer look. Pictures show pretty much the overall excellent condition of car. Panels below trunk have minor specking of the anodized alumimum, as does the front of rear window frames. Radio out for repair. I invite your or second party inspection of car before final bidding. Car is located in Salida CO 81201 about 140 miles SW of Denver CO. I can be contacted at 719-539-4707 or 719-221-2716 (cell). Thanks for looking ED.This car is in the 40K class with the built sheet documentation, but since it is not available I'am relisting it at a very fair buy it now price.Other Hi Po items to look for. All Hi Po were special ordered by DSO . This was reflected by 6 numbers on data plate(527208). All others had only 2 numbers. "Export Braces" or shock tower braces were bolted on instead of welded on. Also there was a 16x2 inch reenforcement plate on firewall just under the bolts of the braces. The 4 Speed is a cast iron top loader RUG-AV. Special stiffer rear springs Part #255-E4 with "ISO-Clamp and thick rubber insulators. 9 inch with tapered rear axle housing. Larger MasterCylinder and Harmonic balancer. Large 5 riveted 4 blade fan surrounded by a all metal shourd. PCV instead of the normal draft tube on 225 HP cars. Large Autolite carb with manual choke (Looks factory installed). Heads have #21, solid lifters, dual point distributor. etc. Come inspect this car and you will be convinced as I was, that it is a correct 289/271 Hi Po Cyclone.

1964 Mustang K code coupe, one of first 100 built. K codes were the high preformance 271 hp cars and most all had 4 speed transmissions. Some refer to the K code as the HiPo or the HP 271 horse or heavy duty 289. Less than 1 percent of mustangs were HiPo K code cars, actually the number was .75 of 1 percent. This specific surviving K Code is Dearborn Michigan car manufactured on 9 June of 64. Car was originally sent to Los Angeles but thats not where I found it a couple years ago. I found this one in Indiana, and went and got it and had plans to build it back to original but business took over and time went away.... Now it needs sold to keep the business running in these tough economic times. Here is some specifics on this car. No MOTOR, No TRANSMISSION. You will need a trailer to come get this one, it does have the motor mounts and the pictures are posted for the HiPo (those alone have went for olmost 1500 dollars on here) all the glass is there, the fenders are just hanging there for now, I guess i could bolt them down. I do have the grille and light bezels and bumpers(they are original ones) This car had the battery set up in the trunk, I do have a ton of sheetmetal that I could sell with this car, I will make it available to the winning bidder first. I also have alot of stuff I had been buying to bring it back to original so keep a eye on what I have for sale youd be suprised what I found. So I guess just ask if your curious if its available and dont think anything is coming with the car other than what is in the pictures. I do have the car for sale locally so if it comes off the auction I sold it. DONT BID UNLESS YOU HAVE THE FUNDS AVAILABLE, I dont want to hear about your wife not letting you buy the car or any other lame excuse. Good Day!

This NOS transverse muffler is concourse correct for all 289-4V HiPo (K-code) equipped Mustangs and Shelby GT350's built before 10-15-64.

Correct rolled pipes with the weld seam, correct crimped edge, and even has the tag still on it. This is a very hard to find NOS muffler, and is the real deal folks!

Has some minor shelf wear and dings and has some dead orange lady bugs that fall out of it. I don't believe it will cause a problem - I hate those d**n bugs.
