Was it the GT equipment that pushed the price up on this one, more desirable? Buyer will have $30k + in the car just tracking down the hipo parts, and then get to start spending lots more $'s on the restoration. Is the market bouncing back up again?

Dent from pulling the motor? The guy holding up the tranny so the eng/trans could be swung out of engine bay, knocked his beer over and had to let go to save it, causing dent?

Looks like an early 70's 302, with an economy rebuild using a single can of engine spray paint. Isn't that a 70's era engine color?

    $20k high end?

What a car is worth is relative to how badly someone wants one at the time. $15k would give you some room to purchase an original engine which you'll probably have $10k into (with rebuild). As it has been said here many times, you are always better off buying a more complete car drivetrain and K specific parts wise. If you take into account $'s what it would cost to bring this car up to a clean driver status, you might be better off being patient and spending more on a car you can enjoy right now.

    My .02cents

Alan, If you don't mind telling, what did you end up paying for this Kar? This info is used for reference so when others are looking at similar purchases, they know what the going rate is.

    Thanks, Chuck

What I find interesting is that a project K car for sale, with the majority of the correct K specific engine parts, doesn't command much more $'s than a project K missing the original engine/K specific parts.

Probably like everyone here, every time I think it's time to clean up my extra Hipo parts and cash them in, I see prices go to another ridiculously high level. Anyone think these high prices are going to end any time soon?

Does anyone think the muscle car bubble is going to burst any time soon? I keep thinking back to the financial times/economy of the late 80's when the housing market tanked, interest rates jumped up and guys who had speculated on high end muscle cars, were looking at a 50% or more drop in the values of their cars. I had a friend back then that bought a nice mid 60's 427 vette for $60k with an home equity loan, expecting the market to keep going up, only to get slammed on his adjustable rate loan, and then when he had to sell it, only got $35k for the car. Talk about a double hit.

Any more info on condition of body such as rust or accidents? Original drivetrain? Those conditions/items can make a big difference in what it would take to restore a car, the more work/K specific parts the car needs, will significantly reflect what it's worth.

Ditto on checking for all the correct/special Boss 351 parts, just like the K cars, missing specific parts get pricy in a hurry.

The 69 Mach I R code car looks pretty clean. I don't see the carb/ram air setup, does it come with the ram air hood? An original ram air setup for these cars can push $1.5k+ Is the engine is the original vin stamped motor (vin # stamped on top back drivers side of block, I think)? The engine will probably need to be gone through having not run in that long. The interior trim pieces aren't that hard to come by.

The car is already at $23k+. If it were here in the states the car would probably get to the mid-high $20k's. Then you add another $15k (modestly estimated) for the restoration costs, and you're up in the range where you could buy one already restored.

The big block Mach's like the GT500 Shelby's were fun cars in a straight line, but real nose heavy & they don't slide around corners like a small block would.

I would see if you can negotiate the price down on the Boss car. Those really are fun cars, lots of giddiup, and they handle corners pretty well.

I had one years ago, and when they are in proper tune, they run like a scalded dog. I think it was a toss up between the 68 1/2 CJ mustang and the 71 Boss 351 as to the fastest stock production 1/4 mile times. In the last year or so prices for them have really taken off, trailing the Boss 302 cars, and the really nice clean low mileage cars are in the $40k-$50k range. What are they asking for it?
