SOLD to a HiPo eKschange user. R-Brad

For sale, complete Hipo 289 engine:

    -Rear main cap: “C30 E-A”

    -Rod: “C3-AE-D”

    -Head casting: LH=“20” and RH=“19”

    -6-bolt bellhousing, block casting: “C5AE-6015-E”

    -Harmonic balancer: “B6”

    -Dual points distributor: “C50F 5K20”

-Cobra intake 289, big “COBRA” lettering: “S1MS-9424-A”

    -Small chrome air cleaner

    -Chrome valve covers

Fresh rebuild, <10k miles. You can still see the hone marks. There are stampings on the block where the VIN should be, but I cannot read it. The crank has a “22” stamping and has double roller timing chain - I haven’t confirmed there is a bobbing weight. No fan, carburetor or exhaust manifold. It has forged pistons; it’s balanced and ran well, no smoke or burning oil when removed from last car.

    Hello everyone,

I made the decision to pull this engine and swap in a rebuilt 289. (I already miss the solid lifter cam symphony) The car is for sale but now I have a Hi-po motor I am deciding whether to sell whole or part out. The engine was running well before being removed last weekend. The engine is left sealed with the exception of the carburetor.

I did the engine swap at a buddies shop. I am working on getting the motor back from his shop to my garage in the next month. In the haste of swapping the engine, I didn’t look at the VIN stamping any closer. As I mentioned in a previous post, I was having trouble reading the VIN while it was in the car. To be honest, I’m not sure about the stamping on the block. It looks incomplete (not a full 8 characters+) and not straight (some stamps are much higher or lower). Once I relocate the engine, I’ll post pictures and ask for more opinions. But in the meantime, does anyone have any comments on interpreting the stamping? Or, does anyone have a picture of how the VIN is stamped on the block itself?

    Thanks,

    -Brad

I have some more info. on the motor.

As previously stated, the block is a "-E" 6-bolt casting. The date code is: 6C28. I have tried to get the VIN number from the RH-passenger side front, above the oil pan. There is definitly some stamping there - I just can't desipher it. I used some Play-Dough (sp?) and tried to take an impression of it with mild success. It appears as though the stampings are not complete (top>bottom) for some of the numbers. Finally, it looks like the stamping are 2-3inches long. I'm open to any feedback.

Both RH and LH heads are date castings: 6B28, with "20"

    The intake castings: S1MS 9424-A

    The distributor castings: C50F 5K20

    Balancer stamping: B6

    Thanks,

    -Brad

I have a Hi-po engine in my poppy red 66 fastback A-code. It’s a rust free, CA car with no accidents. The entire car is for sale for $23k. However, if it make$ more $en$e to $wap the motor out with a rebuilt 289-4V I may be encouraged to do $o. The Hi-po motor runs well and does not burn any oil.

    Hi-po indicators:

    -6-bolt bellhousing, block casting: “C5AE-6015-E”

    -Head casting: “20”

-Cobra intake 289-302, S1MS-9424-A, big “COBRA” lettering

    -Large harmonic balancer

    -Dual points distributor

    -Small chrome air cleaner

    -Chrome valve covers

    Non-Hi-po indicators:

-Unable to read the serial number engraved on the passenger side of the block

-Holly carb – I don’t know its origin

-Fan – I believe this is just a standard V8 fan

    -Headers, no factory exhaust manifolds

I’m going to do a bit more investigative work to identify the serial number engraving on the side of the block.

Is anyone interested in the car+motor for $23,000? Or I will take offers to buy only the motor.

I am located in Fremont, CA.

    Thank you,

    -Brad
