I haven't driven my car enough lately to need gas (too hot), but when I do, I'll try the marine gas and let everyone know how it works. I've used 100/110 octane low lead avgas in my Cobra and it ran fine, but quit when I read somewhere that avgas doesn't have enough lubricant for car engines. Don't know whether that is true or not. As info, Ford's original owners' manual recommended octane of "at least 101" for HiPo's, 99 octane for 4v 289's, 92 for 2v 289's and 200 sixes. I suspect the octane ratings were different then.

I realize I don't have a problem and am not trying to create one. Since I've always heard gas with ethanol produces less energy, I merely am wondering if 100% gas rather than 90% gas/10% ethanol might offset the 4% reduction in octane and provide better performance.

I've always run 93 octane E10 and the car runs fine. I'm wondering if 89 octane, ethanol free marine gas might be better. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Even though my throttle linkage hooked right up and works fine, it doesn't look to be the original linkage. Anyone have any close up pictures, or know where I might find pictures, of the original setup?

Linkage hooked right up. I had to convert fuel line from a 3/8" to 5/16", but that worked out OK to.

I installed a new Holley 80570 and it runs great! Thanks for the tip Z Ray.

Thanks Z.Ray.

Thanks for the tip. I spoke to John today and considering several options he gave me. Sounds like another Holley would be a mistake. With the 4100 clone, I either have to install an manual choke or set up the auto choke, both of which he says aren't too difficult. It's a bit more money than I'd like to spend, but sounds like the way to go.

Jim,
As far as I know, the engine, other than the manifold, is a stock 65 K code with manual transmission.

My Holley, unknown model number because number has been rubbed out, has oversized primary jets (69's) and won't run with 52's. Since I'm not sure what all was done to it my previous owner(s), I'm considering a new carb. Who is the best source for an original style Autolite 4100 with an electric choke and if I can find one, will it work on my hi-rise aluminum manifold? If I went with another Holley, what model number would be recommended?

Thanks for the offer Bryan. I'm in Savnnah. Fred, I believe will be able to get me the part numbers and my mechanic should be able to install them. Thanks for the offer though!

Thanks Fred. I'm not sure I have a single or dual plane manifold, but my mechanic will know. I'll pass on your info and hope we can find the parts. Thanks again for your help.

My 65 K code is running far too rich, as evidenced by the exhaust smell and carbon on exhaust tips. Plugs on right bank are a bit black, left side OK. My mechanic suspects jets might be wrong and power valve diaphram is probably broken and wants to rebuild carb. Carb is a Holley with electric choke, model number unknown (list number rubbed out) and manifold is an aluminum hi-rise.
Since carb model is unknown, I don't know what rebuild kit to buy.
--Is there any type of "universal kit" available?
--If another carbuerator becomes necesary, what carb with an electric choke would be recommended?

My 65 might have been a heater delete from the factory or either all heater components are just missing. I'm not interested in adding a heater but would like to plug the 5 to 6 inch hole under the dash on the pasensger side. The hole runs directly to underside of cowl vent. Ideally, I'd like to find an original style passenger side vent assembly w/ vent door. Does anyone know where I might find one? In unavailable or cost prohibitive, I'd like to just plug the hole. Does anyone have any suggestions on an easy way to plug the hole?

After driving my car, particularly after winding it out a bit, it looses several oz. of coolant through the overflow tube. Does that mean my radiator is not working properly? Thermostat? Radiator cap? Anyone using overflow tanks?

I've set the timing, but not replaced or gapped the points.

My car has the stock Ford dual point distributor.

How hard do most of you run your kars? Since mine is 44 years old, I tend to take it easy and baby my kar, however, when I do wind it out a bit, it seems to kind of run out energy at about 4500 to 5000 rpm. It is almost like the engine develops a skip or misses a bit. I don’t want to push it, so I’ve never run it at any higher rpm. I replaced the plugs and plug wires but it made no difference. Is there a simple “fix” or is that just the way it is?
