Was trolling thru the archives and found more than one posting about the backward K vin stampings on the transmissions from the Metuchen plant. I guess it might have been some workers signature.

ZRay, unfortunately mostly city here in Plano. I try to do some country cruising every once and awhile. Its scary sometimes, but I can't let it just sit in the garage. I've been spending most of the last year undoing the damage from it sitting undriven Dads garage for quite a few years. Lots of people ask me how can I drive it, I say how can't I drive it!

My friend has a 66 convertible that he put a WC T-5 in. He used the adapter to fit the original bellhousing. Requires drilling and tapping one hole in the bellhousing to mount the adapter, unseen from the outside. All the original clutch linkage fit fine. Shifter fit fine with no trimming (stock style handle to fit T-5, looks stock till you see 5th gear in the knob. Driveshaft needed to be shortened 1 inch. After driving it I'm very tempted to do it to my Koupe.

I do almost all my non work driving is with my Koupe. 117,894 miles on the original unrebuilt drivetrain that still purs like a kitten. She shows her age but white paint hides alot with a few feet of distance. I'm hoping to get close to 200,000 before a major rebuild is neccesary.

Its normal for small amounts of coolant to come out the overflow, normal coolant level is not all the way to the top but about and inch below the neck if I remember. I usually forget and top mine off, but it usually levels off after loosing the excess coolant out the overflow.

Aftermarket valve covers, late model thermostat housing, power steering. I'm really wondering if the engine is still a Hipo. A little attention to detail would go a long way. Its still a nice car but seems to be missing alot of important items.

In all the years my dad drove the Koupe the best she got was 18.2 mpg and he circled it in the book as "best mpg", usually avg. 15 to 17 mpg with 3:50 gears

I had mice store cat food (and mouse poison) inside the hood and trunk braces, everytime I opened or closed them some came out and landed on the trunk floor or engine. I took them off and shook them out but there is still some stuck in there. Could be your problem too, took me awhile to figure out where it kept coming from!

Kar was bought new by my father and has never had the trans out except when we replaced the clutch in 1983. Engine VIN stamping is very poor quality also.

Finally found my VIN stamp on the trans, it was just about staring me in the face but I expected to find on the main case not the tailshaft. Check out the backwards K, oops.

Washers are to break vacuum @ diaphram, right now it just has an old diaphram with a small hole drilled in it looks cleaner this way. The spring in the diaphram pushes the secondaries closed. the rod from the diaphram is still connected to the secondary lever and also acts as a pivot point to engage roll pin on secodary lever. Hard to decribe the action without seeing it work, quite ingenious. Yup cost a $1.50 new in 1966.

My Koupe has had the mechanical conversion since new, works very nice, you can feel the tip in point and control use of them. The only issue (if you want to call it one) is that they come in quite abruptly and can break the tires loose:) Tip in point can be adjusted from about half throttle to about 3/4 throttle.

AER had a nice gold 65 K fastback there, must be an early one because it had a road draft tube. Said it was the first time it had been out in years

Very Nice Kar!

Anybody going to the Yellow Rose/Southwestern Ford Nationals show in Fort Worth this weekend? I'll be there wearing my K shirt but without the Kar.
-
Yes my Pace car had no cable on the cap, but I had what I called a 65 3/4 coupe that had the cable, and an alternator but had early items like the hood, the chrome wiper bases and the clip on door handles.

What about the 4 '64 Tour De France/Monte Carlo rally cars they were early Hipo Coupes and had some Shelby like modifications. Here's some info
