Dunc, the Motive H-pipes fit very nice. I guess it boils down to whether you want original Ford parts or reproduction. I wanted original Ford which is why I purchased this h-pipe in the first place, being dinged for it in concours bugged me so I changed it out for the Motive piece. I initially purchased the entire Motive exhaust system less the h-pipe since I had the NOS piece, got dinged for it so bought the h-pipe later. Then I gashed a hole in it loading the kar on my old open trailer and bought one from NPD as they were supposed to be Motive. The pipe from NPD did NOT fit worth a crap so I ordered another on from K.A.R. and it again fit like a dream. I believe NPD may be a few dollars less than K.A.R. but I had problems with fit with the NPD pipe. I never pressed the issue with NPD so I don't know if they are selling Motive for sure or not, in my case the pipe purchased from NPD did not fit the rest of the exhaust system after being built with an NOS pipe, the K.A.R. pipe fit perfectly both times. I will be taking pictures of the NOS pipe for gtk, I would be glad to send them to you as well. You have first dibs if you want it since I offered it to you initially. Let me know if you want pics...

Well put Charles. Unfortunately my kar fits into the extensive sheet metal replacement category as 20 years of storage in less than ideal conditions took its toll. I could have replaced less sheet metal (passenger side rear quarter was solid) but I had the pair of NOS quarters and decided to do it as we really needed to replace the wheel wells anyway. Floor pan replacement is a given for an Illinois car and the usual cowl panel leaks of course contributed to that.
I will never condone a rebody (transfer of VIN to a better shell), however I have no problems with sheet metal replacement to restore an original shell. Restore/restomod the good shell, VIN transfer is not acceptable in my book.

Quote from dunc289
does anyone know if a " standard H-pipe" fits a hipo- exhaust manifold equipped 289 Mustang?
Nope. I have an NOS h-pipe that had surface rust that has been bead blasted, painted, and installed for a short period of time, got dinged for it being painted (rusty the judge said, lol) so replaced it with a Motive aluminized pipe for show. If you are buying a repro make sure it is made by Motive, others don't fit. The Repro pipe I got from NPD didn't fit (couldn't verify if it was a Motive) but I KNOW K.A.R. sells the correct Motive pipe. I'll let my slightly used NOS pipe (with Ford #s stamped in it and the correct stop) go for $100 if you are interested, otherwise I'd recommend the Motive pipe.

If you don't find a trade I may be interested in purchasing...

They are natural.

My experience with the repro tie rod boots is not good, in less than a year and 150 miles on the kar they had fallen apart. NPD replaced them and in less than a year the replacements are now falling apart as well. I don't know where they get the rubber for these boots but it is junk. Charles, if the NOS boots will hold up for more than a year and aren't overly expensive I'd be interested in four of them myself.

Thats about when I had to readjust mine, made a world of difference!

The shirts I had made are embroidered, polo is available though I had mine done on denim. This guy specializes in high performance Ford items but didn't have the 289 hipo until I gave him a logo to make a pattern out of.
-
I had a vendor make up a hipo 289 emblem shirt. I haven't received it yet but he says it came out real nice. Now that he has the master he can put them on any shirt or hat of your choice. The ones I had made up are on their way, as soon as I get them I'll post a picture.
Marv, check your mail for contact information.

For that price you should at least get both of them, even then the price is unreal. I think Bob lost his marbles...

See this post for pictures of the dual exhaust support:

The dual exhaust support was not a bracket per se, it was just a piece of steel tube to keep the frame rail from being compressed when tightening up the hanger bolts.
-
This is what mine looked like before being cut out. The most further rear tube visible is the dual exhaust support.

This is a replacement frame rail with the salvaged dual exhaust support welded in:

If you can find one an old edlebrock F4B is a nice intake.

I used damperdoctor as well and was very satisfied with price and turnaround time.

Yes, thank you Hank. I just hope it wasn't too late. Many of the old regulars are no longer active, sure hope the site speed issues isn't what contributed to the attrition rate.

Paint the entire radiator with it.

Hood latch should be phosphate and oil, the brackets were semi-flat black if I remember correctly. Washer pump brackets and bolts were zinc, I doubt you can save the original. Here again I would recommend NOS, the repops are junk.
