New guy in Michigan

  • Hello,

My name is Ben and I'm happy to have found this site. I have been around 65-66 mustangs my entire life. My dad was the reason, he has collected these since the mid 60's. He is now in his late 70's and no longer has an interest in it. I have been handed the torch on the restoration of a 1965 K code 2+2. He had collected parts for the past 40 years and much of the car I have NOS. Sadly we lost my mom a couple years ago and my dad was going through so much, he accidently scrapped the engine. Very long painful story. It was just the heads and short block, I have everything else except the fuel pump. Needless to say I'm trying to locate a correct date code block and heads, and yes I know how hard that will be! Hopefully I can find info from this site, and look forward to talking with many of you learning all I can.

    Welcome aboard Ben!!

I am sorry to hear that your dad no longer has an interest in this Kar. I am sorry for the loss of your mom as well.

There are many helpful members on this site.

In regards to your block and heads, a scheduled production date of the Kar will be helpful. There were a number of changes during the 65 model year. It is possible that I have what you need.

Do you have any pictures to post of the Kar?

  • Fred,

I dont have any good pictures of the car at this moment, I only pulled everything out of the shop a few weeks ago, and its now packed away in the corner of my shop. The car and parts had been there since 1980. I do know the build date of the car was May 14, 1965 and its a Dearborn car. Its a factory GT with deluxe interior. Any help you can direct me to is appreciated. If you know of resources for dates codes and assembly line paint markings, please direct me to those. I like the research. I do have the K code 4th edition book and many other books my dad had collected, and have educated myself. I also have a few rare items to sell/trade. Its not in the registry and I would like to get it in there if you know the path for that. Out of the pain I'm still grateful to have the carburetor and all the K code specific parts from the engine, that would make this much worse. I need to understand the correct fuel pump for it because I'm finding conflicting info.
